In ViE, a battle is a Day of Defeat: Source match in which two opposing divisions fight for the control of a certain territory on the campaign map for an extended period of time, usually 5 hours.

Concept

Battles are the most important events in a campaign of Victory in Europe. Battles alone decide which sides wins a territory and ultimately the campaign.

Battles are hour-long matches in which an Allied division fights against an Axis division. Both sides have a certain number of slots for players which they may not exceed, but they should keep all slots full at any time during the battle if possible, because if one team is outnumbering the other, they do not have to lose a player but may take advantage of their numerical superiority. Under no condition a team may have more than the assigned number of players, however. This number is currently (as of ViE#1) at 12 players per side. This includes any player who is on a team, even admins.

Throughout the whole battle, the fighting takes places on a single Day of Defeat map. There are no breaks inbetween, with the exception of hourly map restarts and (unintended) server crashes. If the server comes back up after the later, there is a five minute cease-fire before the server goes back to "live".

During the course of a battle, both sides will try to capture and hold as many flags as possible, with the ultimate goal being a fullcap of the map. The winner of a battle is determined by a system based on the points for holding flags and for fullcaps (see battle results).

Rules

Throughout the battle, all players are obligated to follow the rules. The most notable rules are those restricting spawncamping or accessing offlimits areas, not to forget the prohibition of all means of cheating.

Statistics

Apart from the battle results themselves, many more information is taken from the server logs and converted into stats.

Trivia

  • With battles being the most important event in the tournament, the players discuss a lot about them in the forums and some topics appear regularly, such as the Most annoying topic and various other topics that congratulate the other players or provoke them.
