The third campaign of Victory in Europe started on Saturday, October 7, 2006; 13 battledays were planned, with the last one being scheduled for November 18, 2006. The campaign ended earlier, however, after 12 battledays, the final one taking place on November 15. This was largely due to the stunning success of the Axis division in this campaign, the 3-RB, marking one of the best performances ever by any BFE/ViE division (see Divisional Stats). The campaign was felt to be over already by many players, so the management decided to end it earlier. ViE#3 marks the third time in a row the Axis Army wins a campaign.

The campaign featured a total of 242 registered players, although the stats recorded only 180 players who actively participated in the battles. Initially, all battles were played with 15vs15, compared to 12vs12 players in the first two ViE campaigns. This led to the shift of some tactic doctrines and many players reported that battles had more of a battle-atmosphere than before. Critics pointed out that the increased playernumbers had negative effects on the performance, though this could not be proven.

ViE#3 did see much more controversy in the forums and a much stricter enforcement of the rules than before. A number of battle bans were issued. Main hot topics of debate were the rules on namechanging and allsay (for the latter, the term "mm2", standing for "message mode 2", became widespread after having been excessively used by the new head of the Security Council, Moe).

According to the management, the animousity between the Allies and Axis increased notably, although this was questioned by some players. This diagnosis is one of the key reasons why it was announced late in the campaign that the next campaign would no longer allow players to select a side, forcing them to be randomly assigned instead. This topic gained the attention of the whole community and was also extensively debated.

The strategic aspect of ViE#3 saw new bidding tactics and a suprisingly large number of double attacks on both sides. The CinCs, Skinn (Allies) and Ewok (Axis) produced some unexpected battles through their innovative bidding tactics. After Ewok had deliberately bid low on both battles, the Axis had to defend themselves twice on the fifth battleday. This battleday can be seen as a turning point in the campaign, because the Axis crushed the Allies so severly on dod_highlander_rc1, that the management did not post the results, fearing that the Allies might feel humiliated. Estimates say the Axis won that battle by roughly 200 fullcaps.

After this battle, Ewok had realized that due to the high handicaps, defending was much more effective then attacking, and kept bidding low to get more defenses. The 3-RB demonstrated an unmatched strenght on home soil, not losing a single defense in the whole campaign (a total of 13 out of 13 defenses were won). Campaign Manager ScubaShark then experimented with lowering the handicaps by lowering the ammount of bid points available (see Bidding) to make attacking attractive again. The last third of the campaign subsequently saw the Axis continously trying to attack and gain even more territories. After the 12th battleday, the Axis had conquered all of Europe except for Mother Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Greece, leaving the Allies nothing but a small strip of land in South and Eastern Europe.
